Announcing a new name for our
Rehearsal and Audition Hall
The Back Door Theater
Back Door Theater

We have bought the old Knights of Columbus building in Gulfport as of August 16, 2004. It is 7000 sq. ft. inside, has LOTS of room (complete with a spacious loft), a large parking lot, a full commercial kitchen, and a LOT of potential. This will be our new meeting, audition, and rehearsal space. We will also use the newly named Back Door Theater for some of our productions too.

Join our Building Fund Drive

Our goal is to transform this theater into a performing arts center. It will serve as a testing ground for new plays, new playwrights and challenging new projects. The community, both young and old, will experience children's plays, improv, musical variety shows, and dinner theater.

In the future, we hope grants and stipends will enable us to make improvements to the building and provide training in all aspects of live theater ... acting, set design, lights, sound, music, and dance.

With your help, the Gulfport Community Players will continue to bring the magic of live theater to Gulfport. If you want to be a part of this exciting process, send your donations to:
Gulfport Community Players, Inc.

The Gulfport Community Players is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Your donations are fully tax deductible. Our IRS number is #59-2135038.

A Call for Directors and Volunteers

The Gulfport Community Players, in in its continuing quest for talent and better plays,is inviting accomplished directors to submit the name of a play or plays (non-musical please!) that they would like to direct and why they think that play would be appropriate for Gulfport audiences. The plays are to be performed at the Catherine A. Hickman Theater, which is a smaller venue theater with 172 seats, situated in, predominately, a retirement area. The plays submitted should appeal to their target audiences, and ideally, should not have been done too recently by other theater groups in the area. These plays will be for their 2009-2010 Season.

Submit your names and reasons to:
Gulfport Community Players
4919- 17th Avenue South
Gulfport, FL 33707

The Players are also seeking all volunteer crews and directors to help them out
with their productions. Contact Carol Polk at 727-321-4720 or email them at: basia@mindspring.com

The play's director, Vic Carr, has put together another great cast for this fast-paced comedy.

The play centers around a nice Jewish girl who is dating a gentile, but he hasn't told her parents.
She invites her parents for dinner, so the daughter needs a nice Jewish boy to stand in for her real boyfriend. She hires another guy to play the part.  Eventually the girl has to tell her parents the truth and her father has a mild heart attack upon hearing the news. But, love is in the air and it all works out in the end!

Beau Jest will run from Nov. 5th through 15th, 2009 at the Catherine A. Hickman Theater of Gulfport.
